We’re returning to Ardmore’s fabulous (the host of last year’s amazing VIDEO VIOLENCE: REDUX DELUXE screening) for a FREE three hour ode to VHS and the brick and mortar video rental shop.

The program will include:

videonasties-smVIDEO NASTIES: MORAL PANIC, CENSOR- SHIP & VIDEOTAPE
(2010, 72 minutes, Dir. Jake West)
The term “Video Nasty” refers to a specific list of 72 horror and exploitation films that caused a national outcry amongst British conservatives and religious groups in the early 1980s and eventually led to Parliament’s introduction of a home video classification system. This UK-produced documentary explores both the public panic and the entire Video Nasty catalog itself (form AXE to ZOMBIE) with commentary by VHS collectors, former British officials, and current filmmakers. SEVEN YEAR RENTALsevenyearrental
(2011, 74 minutes, Dir. David Neureuther)
Director David Neureuther in attendance!

An intimate look at the final year of operation for the Wisconsin-based rental shop Video Plus told through the eyes of its employees. An important document of a failing industry and an ode to the stores that once helped it thrive.

Plus short subjects “VIDEO WORLD”, “THE LAST VIDEO STORE”, “M IS FOR MAGNETIC TAPE”, and assorted vintage commercials and instructional videos!
